世界で300万枚のセールスを誇るオーストラリアのエレクトロニックデュオ、Empire Of The Sun『Way To Go』のMVのディレクション/制作をしました。ここではデジタルヒューマンの技術を使った制作プロセスをご紹介します。制作を進める上で、Empire Of The Sunの顔を、完全に一度CGデータ化。400個のマーカーを彼らの顔に貼り、細かい表情のニュアンスも含めたフェイシャルキャプチャを行いました。そのキャプチャデータと、フォトスキャンによる彼らの顔のCGデータ、実写撮影時のモーションキャプチャデータを組み合わせて制作を行います。製作期間は約2ヶ月。1ヶ月の企画の後、1日だけアーティストが日本に来日し、コンサートの翌日一日で撮影を行いました。その後ポスト・プロダクションから納品に至るまでは日本とUniversal Musicのあるオーストラリアのシドニーとアーティストが在住するLAの3カ国をつないでオンラインで行われました。
We directed and produced the music video for "Way To Go" by the Australian electronic duo Empire Of The Sun, which has sold 3 million copies worldwide. Here we introduce the production process using digital human technology. In the production process, the faces of Empire Of The Sun were completely converted to CG data once, and 400 markers were applied to their faces to capture facial expressions, including the nuances of detailed facial expressions. The production was done by combining that capture data, the CG data of their faces from the photo scan, and the motion capture data from the live-action shooting. The production period was approximately two months; after one month of planning, the artists came to Japan for one day, and the filming was done in one day the day after the concert. The post-production and delivery of the film was done online, connecting Japan, Sydney, Australia (where Universal Music is located), and LA (where the artist lives).
